Brief History of Windermere

Joseph Hill Scott was one of the first to settle in what would become the town of Windermere. He purchased 150 acres here in 1885. The name itself comes from the historic Lake Windermere of England. The area began to see some growth in 1889 when a railroad was a constructed from Windermere to Kissimmee. The community really expanded in 1910 when two investors came in from Ohio and began developing the area.
